More found photos and an artefact of our first hangout.

Alfresco dining with Siobhan and Joe at the camp site we made in a forest in Cornwall, early 1990s.

Black Sabbath album cover style graveyard in Ireland, early 1990s.

"Hawaii?"
"fine thanks, how are ye?"
Surfing Irish style, Lorna (with purple board) and Paula, Cork, Ireland, 2000. Although it looks like a rough caravan site, this was the back of the beach, there was some sand further down and an ocean there too with very big and fast waves!

The club night where we did our courting, the Psychedelic Jungle at the Playpen, Bootle street Manchester, 1988.

Horner woods, Exmoor, Somerset, early 1990s, with Siobhan and Joe.

Sunrise on the ring of Kerry, early 1990s.
This was taken from outside out tent which was pitched on the edge of a beautiful natural beach which was the location of Ireland's only beach bar (at the time). There was nothing else there except a beach, a field, the bar and the sea...perfect!

Old Photos

One of the pleasures of sorting through things is finding old photos from previous adventures that are like hotlinks to memories. This one was from an adventure we had back in August 1988 when we were teenagers! This photo was taken in the small village of Kerhostin, at the narrowest point on the Quiberon pensinsula, in Bretagne, France. This was near the railway crossing on the way back from the boulangerie as you can tell. We camped there for a few days, and were between two very different seas, with the wild Cote Sauvage on one side and a few hundred yards away was the calm bay that curves round to Carnac and Morbihan. Lorna is modelling a beautiful and fondly remembered hippie dress and Dr Marten boots, which looks so cool teamed with that wild, windblown curly hair. I remember this was taken on one of the old disposable cameras.

The Dump

We said goodbye to lots of things we don't need. It was sad but everything goes somewhere, there are no endings, only moments when the unwanted stuff leaves the scene or when the camera pans away.
We had a few comedy props to throw away too, and luckily there was a comedy props section at the local tip where we got rid of the crutches and the false noses, a car that drives backwards and the rolled carpet with the legs sticking out.

Cat Land

This is the destination; Caithness, the promontory of the Cat People, or Nekos as they call them in Japan, although we doubt the place is full of emo kids with cat ears and tails, but who knows?
You can read all about the place here and there is a decent Wikipedia entry here.
We like the fact that Caithness is along the same line of latitude as Southern Norway and Newfoundland, and is closer to Bergen than to London (or so it seems on the maps).
We hope to visit many of the Islands around the Scottish coast, and fancy a cruise to Norway too!

Gotta New Motor

We have the necessary wheels now, and what a lovely set of wheels they are, by far the poshest car we have ever owned, with generous boot space and a nice aerial on the roof. The journey should be comfortable, we hope, and the car should move forwards, and backwards, which is handy because we might forget something.
Now we just have to get our removals sorted! We are still waiting on quotes and dates and this waiting and not knowing is difficult. It is often said that moving house is a stressful experience, but we are finding that getting a removal company to take our stuff up to the Highlands within our time scale is causing great tension and much pouring of nerve steadying stiff drinks, is this what they mean? We will be relieved when we get a date and can just focus on getting ourselves up there, so we appeal to the dear deities of shifting stuff, Bernard Cribbins, Eric Sykes, PG Tips Monkeys, Mercury, Atlas and their mate Fred with a van, come to our aid!

Found Painting

So we were tidying and packing and sorting things out when we noticed a surreptitious painting on our dining table, the work of our daughter Eimear who is adept with colours. We love it and it will be a wrench to leave it behind, but there will be more, fresher, cleaner, whiter tables to paint all over, the future is dappled...

So many boxes, so little time...

Another one packed.
We ordered a certain number of boxes based on our estimation of what we had, but we didn't realise how many books we have. We didn't intend to open a mobile library in Caithness but if all else fails it is an option, and if there is a market for Horror, Sci Fi and Western DVDs then we may need premises.

Found drawing

While sorting through all our books we found this drawing which is a mashup between top artist (uncle) Simon Woolham and our son Aran, it is excellent and is one for keeping.
See more of Simon's work here and his work with our own Mr Moss here.

Packing

One child packed, just got to catch the other one.

Boxes

Here is where the funs starts, we have hundreds of DVDs, and Books, and a few things we can use to cook with, and some small children, and lots of boxes to fill! At the end of February we will be moving to Caithness in the far, far, far North East of Scotland...
